In To Kill A Mockingbird, what realizations do Scout & Dill make about Dolphus Raymond outside the courthouse?

They realize that Dolphus is only appearing in town as an alcoholic because he knows that the people of Maycomb wouldn't be able to accept that he is around African Americans of his own free will. He gives them the reason "I'm drunk and I don't really know what I'm doing" for his behavior.
